This program updates the Bloodborne Pathogens standard information, including the new Federal Law: Needlestick Prevention Act; and OSHA's new enforcement action. The BBP standard has not changed. However, OSHA is targeting enforcement of Engineering controls. This means safer needles, surgical blade removal and other controls. This program is for those persons who are familiar with BBP rules and standards, but upgrades their knowledge on the new needlestick law and enforcement actions of OSHA and others.

This is a short program that surveys the issues of exposure to Bloodborne pathogens and prevention of needlestick injuries for the healthcare worker.

These issues include universal precautions, exposure to BBP, who is at risk, appraising the risks, personal protection, and disposal of biohazards. New technologies, like re-engineered syringes, new laws, and recently proposed Federal Acts are also surveyed.
